Not everyone thinks it's a good idea for the vice presidential candidates to debate in person tonight. Dr. Peter Hotez, dean of the school of Tropical Medicine at the Baylor college of medicine says "I think it would send a better message to the country if we did this virtually."
He says from the president down, there have been too many cases of Covid-19 associated with the White House, In fact, he calls what's happening in the White House an epidemic. "The team has not been wearing masks regularly and there's a lot of virus swirling. I doubt the two candidates are going to wear a mask during the debate."
He says a Plexiglas barrier between vice president Mike Pence and Kamala Harris would only offer a false sense of security. He adds a negative test ahead of the debate could prove inaccurate. He says the risk is not worth it, not only to the candidates but to everyone attending the debate. "We're doing so much virtually these days, why should this be any different."
