Delayed by one year because of the Coronavirus outbreak, the 16th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition begins in Fort Worth.
This competition's theme is "The World is Listening" and it celebrates 60 years since its founding in 1962, four years after Kilgore's Van Cliburn shocked the Soviet Union by winning the first International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
For many, this year's sentimental favorite is the only Ukrainian pianist on the stage, Dmytro Choni, who is a Kyiv native and is one of 30 finalists from around the world set to compete at Van Cliburn Concert Hall at TCU and Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth from today through June 18th.
