Bedford police are releasing dash cam video showing two officers and a number of Good Samaritans as they help rescue a driver from a burning car over the weekend.
Sunday afternoon, a car jumped a curb and smashed into a power pole on Central Drive near Meadow Park Circle.
With dash cam rolling, a Bedford officer named Lane Simmons pulls up and sees the car's front end crumpled against the tree with smoke already starting to billow. He jumps out to help and finds off-duty North Richland Hills detective Dan Hollister already working on the driver's side door which was jammed closed by shrubbery.
As Good Samaritans work together to uproot bushes to clear the door, Hollister and Simmons work to pull the apparently unconscious driver from the car just seconds before flames erupt and quickly consume the car.
Paramedics rushed the woman to the hospital. Police believe she crashed because of a medical episode.
Incidentally, due any day, Hollister's nine-months-pregnant wife was in their car witnessing the dramatic rescue.
