DENTON (1080 KRLD) - A costume shop that’s been a staple in the Denton community for nearly half a century is teetering on the brink of closure.
Rose Costumes was founded in 1976 by Judy Smith. It was originally called Secondhand Rose, a resale and blue jean-repair store that shared a building with Jim’s Diner on Fry Street. In the 44 years since, it’s evolved into Rose Costumes, a costume rental shop that prides itself on being "unlike anything you've ever seen." But, if the vintage costume emporium doesn't raise some money soon … it's in danger of closing down for good.
The Rose Costumes team has resorted to selling vintage costumes in its new online store, The Rosé Room. A GoFundMe launched at the beginning of December is also dedicated to continuing the shop's "legacy of creativity, love, passion and service."
KRLD's Baylee Friday spoke with Annemarie Aldrich, owner of Rose Costumes, about how the businesses is striving to make it to its 45th anniversary this March.
