WATCH: Injured ship crewman gets helicoptered to hospital

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, an Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew helped an injured crewman with a medvac evacuation Monday.

The injured crew member – described as a 20-year-old man – was aboard the 643-foot bulk carrier Tai Star, around 16 miles south of Galveston, Texas. He had injured his hand in the Galveston Fairway Anchorage.

Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders first received a medevac request from the captain of the Tai Star at 7:02 p.m. An on-duty flight surgeon recommended a medevac.

Once the Coast Guard helicopter crew arrived at the scene, they hoisted the man and transported him to the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. The patient was reportedly in stable condition as of Tuesday evening.
