New video is helping to explain how a Weatherford man was convicted in a child porn case, even though he destroyed all the evidence.
Two years ago, Joe Eddie Stephens was indicted on child porn charges. But before he could go to trial, he took a hammer and shattered the computer where investigators believed the images were stored.
Parker County District Attorney Jeff Swain has released a home video to NBC-5, recorded by Stephens' wife, and showing him with the hammer clubbing the computer into pieces.
Officials say the damage was so complete that there were no child porn images to show the jury. But prosecutors did show the video and the shattered computer to the jury which did, indeed, convict him.
He was sentenced to 12 years for promoting child porn and another 10 years for tampering with evidence. *Video courtsey of our media partners at NBCDFW.com
