A White Settlement beekeeper's death is still under investigation.

Police say the man died at his home Vaquero Street Wednesday while in the backyard tending to his colony of bees. A fire started and the man's son called 9-1-1, bringing police and firefighters to the scene. Sadly, the man was already dead.

Police say the man was using a device that creates smoke, a common practice among beekeepers because smoke calms bees down, allowing the beekeeper to tend the hive or to harvest honey.

When the man dropped the smoker, that apparently ignited the fire. The question for investigators is whether he dropped the smoker because of a medical episode or, perhaps, because the bees swarmed him before the smoke took effect.
