The White Settlement man accused of murdering his roommate has now been convicted.
In 2019, the body of Erik Fernandez was found in his bedroom at the apartment he shared with Jeffrey Cory, who was arrested and charged with murder.
Police said Cory rolled his roommate's body up in a rug and did not call 9-1-1 for two days. In all his conversations with police for nearly four years, he never claimed self-defense until he took the stand this week.
The jury got the case Thursday and brought back a guilty verdict after about three hours. The penalty phase began Thursday afternoon and is expected to continue today.
