White Settlement appoints a native son as its new police chief -- a man whose voice is familiar to KRLD listeners.

Arlington Deputy Police Chief Christopher Cook will be sworn in as White Settlement's new police chief on April 4.

"I was actually born and raised in White Settlement," Cook said. "My first job was in White Settlement at the local Toys R Us when I was a teenager."

This appointment brings Cook's law enforcement career full-circle.

"I had the fortune to actually work as a White Settlement police officer when I was a young patrol officer," Cook said.

For several years, Cook was the voice and face of the Arlington Police Department, serving as its primary media spokesman.

But now, Cook is ready for his new challenge.

"I've been in Arlington almost 18 years," Cook said. "And so it's nice returning back to my hometown where my roots started."

While White Settlement's department is much smaller than that of Arlington, Cook said the foundation remains the same.

"It's about relationships. It's about getting to know people. It's about being out in the community (and) being genuine and candid with folks," Cook said. "It's about partnering in ways to reduce crime."
