A White Settlement family is out of their home because of a fast moving fire over the weekend.

The fire was called in as a grass fire near White Settlement Road and Pemberton. But when police officers pulled up they found it had already spread to a home and was threatening another home next door.

Without waiting for firefighters, the police officers rushed in to evacuate residents and a couple of dogs.

Firefighters contained the fire to one home and no one was hurt. Investigators think it was started by someone who threw away a cigarette. That's a very bad idea any time but especially when North Texas fire danger is rated as Very High to Extreme.
