DUNCANVILLE (1080 KRLD) - The Duncanville ISD is launching a new program to help students with limited internet access-- it’s called Wifi on Wheels.
The district equipped four school buses with internet transmitters and are parking them throughout the district.
"If they need access and don't have it for whatever reason, they can come out," says Andrea Fields, who manages the district’s transportation department. "It reaches [a range] probably about as big as a football field."
Fields says this program is a win-win for the district.
"Duncanville servers many students who are economically disadvantaged," she says. "This is just another way for our district to put our money where our mouth is … and help the students who have the greatest need."
The buses, which are manned, are parked around the district from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every school day. Students just need to be in range and use their district login to connect.
