Wise County officials have signed an agreement with a company to provide high-speed internet service to a majority of the county's population. Nextlink Internet will offer broadband at speeds from 100 megabits per second to 500 Mbps to 95 percent of households in Wise County.
"Internet access is a must-have in the 21st century and we're proud to partner with Nextlink to get this done quickly and cost-effectively," said Wise County Judge J.D. Clark.
Nextlink will also provide a program for qualifying low-income customers offering 25 Mbps as part of the FCC's Affordable Connectivity Program.
The company plans to open an office in Wise County with approximately 15 employees. Nextlink intends to have its Wise County network completed in seven months.
As part of the contract, the company will also provide internet service to 20 Wise County offices.
