GRAND PRAIRIE (1080 KRLD)- A woman has died in Grand Prairie as a result of gunfire from police over the weekend.

Police were called to a home on Tripoli Trail on a report of a domestic assault Saturday night. Police arrived to find the victim escaping from a window and running to them for protection. Just then, a woman emerged and aimed a pistol at police who felt they had no choice but to shoot -- to protect not only themselves but also the victim of the assault.

The officers tried to give first aid to the woman but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

As is routine in officer-involved shootings, the officer who fired the fatal shots is on paid administrative leave while the Dallas County District Attorney's office and the Grand Prairie PD Department of Professional Standards conduct the investigations.
