A woman is dead after being swept away in a fast-moving creek in Lewisville on Thursday.
Police say that around 4:00 p.m. just as northern Dallas and southern Denton counties were getting drenched by downpours, Lewisville police and firefighters were called out to rescue a woman who was washed away as the rising water poured over a spillway in northwest Lewisville.
Firefighters from Lewisville and Carrollton looked for the person but with no luck until the woman's body was found more than a mile downstream nearly two hours later.
In the hours between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Lewisville and surrounding communities received more than two inches of rain, according to reports.
