
Investigators say a driver was killed on Interstate 45 Monday morning when she crossed the median and hit a semi-truck head-on. The crash shut down both directions of 45 in the Ellis County city of Palmer.
The Ellis County Sheriff's Office says a woman driving an SUV was headed north on 45 about 3 a.m. Investigators say she crossed the median and hit a semi-truck head-on in the southbound lanes.
The woman died in the crash, and the crash shut down both directions of the highway while police cleared debris and investigated why she crossed the median. The northbound lanes reopened about 6:30 a.m.; southbound lanes opened around 7:30.
AAA says 8.3 million Texans are expected to drive more than 50 miles between December 23 and January 2 this year. That is 27% more than 2020 and just 7% less than 2019.
Across the United States, AAA predicts 100.1 million people will drive more than 50 miles, an increase of 28% from 2020.
