A 12-year-old Wylie ISD student is taken into custody Thursday after police say he threatened a school administrator and later lunged toward an officer’s gun while being escorted from campus.

The incident happened during the school day, though officials say no students were nearby and no one was injured.

According to Wylie police, staff called for assistance after the student made verbal threats toward an administrator. Officers responded and attempted to remove the student from the building when he allegedly reached for an officer’s holstered weapon.

The student was restrained and arrested on charges that include making a terroristic threat and attempting to take a weapon from a peace officer.

Wylie ISD says normal operations continued after the incident and additional officers were present as a precaution. Authorities have not released the student’s name because of his age, and the case has been referred to juvenile authorities for further review.
