When you hear the phrase, "Traumatic Brain Injury", just the thought of it can make families think of long term care.  New studies have found that up to 5 million people are living with TBI's in this country alone. The number increases by more than 1.7 million a year.

Traumatic brain injury sent more than 80 thousand people to ER's every year for people over the age of 65.

In younger people, there are stories of brain injuries from playing sports or just being kids.

The North Texas Brain and Spine Institute is taking part in studies for the treatment of TBI's. Those treatments don't involve surgery.  It's as simple as adding more amino acids to your diet.

Dr. Rob Dickerman from the North Texas Brain and Spine Institute talked about it with David Rancken.
