For the first time in music history, an AI-generated song has reached No. 1 on a Billboard chart. The track, titled “Walk My Walk” by a virtual artist known as Breaking Rust, tops Billboard’s “Country Digital Song Sales” chart this week.

The song first appeared on Instagram in mid-October, accompanied by AI-generated videos of lone cowboys and open highways. It quickly went viral, earning millions of streams on Spotify and other platforms.

The creator listed on the track, Aubierre Rivaldo Taylor, is also behind another AI music project called Defbeastai, known for producing explicit, tongue-in-cheek country tracks.

Clips of “Walk My Walk” are often captioned with prompts like “Asking AI to make a hit country song,” highlighting the song’s fully artificial origins.

The achievement marks a milestone in the growing role of artificial intelligence in mainstream music, following similar viral success from the AI rock project The Velvet Sundown earlier this year.
