'Bel-Air' fan favorite talks meeting Will Smith and how he almost turned down the role of 'Jazz'

Jordan L. Jones joined KRLD's What to Watch team to talk about his character 'Jazz' in the Peacock series 'Bel-Air,' a reimagining of the hit series 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.'

Everybody knows Jazz that was played by DJ Jazzy Jeff in the original Fresh Prince series. So what was it like playing this character in a new version? You had really big shoes to fill.

Man. It was a dream come true. Just because, you know, Fresh Prince is my favorite show. I still watch it like every night on MTV,BET, VH1, one of them.
And it's like when I go to sleep, feel good show. It's timeless.

So I saw in another interview that you did that Will Smith sort of gave you a stamp of approval and your character. So what did that feel like? And then what kind of advice did he give you going into the show?

Its funny. He and DJ Jazzy Jeff its the same. The one thing I love about Will is that he's backing this financially. It's his production company, Westbrook. And in 2019 when Morgan did this, he stamped it right there and what he didn't do was okay because now you know I kind of have money in this or whatever. And this is kind of about me from the original Fresh Prince. Let me be a part of the writers room. Let me, you know, kind of tweak this and this and this. This is really a good thing because he trusts us to make the decision. He trusts the writers to write it the way we have.
