A father in Ohio was taken into custody after allegedly entering a fray at a high school homecoming dance that involved his son.

Steven Stephens, 43, was arrested Saturday at Anderson High School when he tried to interject himself into an altercation that was already being handled by authorities, Hamilton County police say.

“Stephens was demanding that I explain why his son was being illegally detained,” the arresting officer wrote in the official report. “I attempted to explain to him that his son was being held so the assistant principal could do what she needed to do while investigating the incident, and when she gets back she will determine if the parties could leave.”

Stephens, who officers allege smelled of alcohol and spoke with slurred speech, tried to take his son and leave anyway. When he refused the officer’s command to stay, a struggle ensued, leading to Stephens being thrown to the ground and handcuffed.

Stephens has been charged with resisting arrest, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

No members of the Anderson High School staff were involved in the altercation, which was handled by resource officers provided by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
