Democratic Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee dead at 74

HOUSTON (1080 KRLD)- Long-time Houston Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has died.

She was a Democrat who represented the Houston area in Washington, DC for 30 years. She got her start in politics by winning a seat on the Houston City Council in 1989...and was elected to Congress in 1994.

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee was 74 years old. She had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last month.

A statement from her family did not list a cause of death. They say funeral arrangements are pending.
