Dirk Nowitzki has been retired for years but he is still making history. Nowitzki's number 14 national team jersey will be retired at the FIBA EuroBasket 2022 on September 1st. Nowitzki will be the first German player to have number retired by the national team.
The jersey retirement ceremony will take place in Cologne when Germany takes on France to kick off the EuroBasket tournament.
Nowitzki's number 41 jersey was retired in January of this year in an elaborate ceremony with NBA commissioner Adam Silver, members of the 2011 championship team and his mentor Holger Geschwinder all in attendance.
