Finally, Reese's-Oreo mashups are hitting shelves

Fans of Oreo cookies and Reese’s peanut butter cups are in luck – the brands have recently collaborated to make two new creations. One is an Oreo that tastes like Reese’s and the other is a Reese’s that tastes like Oreo.

“The rumors are true. The Reese’s and Oreo brands are answering fans; call to collab and unite their iconic flavors with not one, but two new products for fans to enjoy,” said a Wednesday press release Hershey, Reese’s parent company. “Introducing the Reese’s Oreo Cup and the Oreo Reese’s Cookie.”

According to Hershey, fans have long been combining popular candy and cookie to make their own creations. Reese’s offers milk chocolate and peanut butter, while Oreo brings its special dark chocolate cookie and cream center. Business Insider noted that the combination of peanut butter and Oreos might have originated with Nancy Myers’ 1998 remake of “The Parent Trap” starring Lindsay Lohan.

“You’ve twisted, you've dipped and you've combined the two flavors on social media,” said Hershey. “The devoted brand fans have been asking for this flavor mashup – mixing and stacking the two flavors together in all kinds of creative and delicious ways. Always committed to delivering bold, exciting snacking experiences, the Oreo brand and Reese’s brand knew this request was simply too good to ignore.”

Oreo and Reese’s have ended up together on lists of America’s favorite snack foods. As of the second quarter of this year, YouGov polling had Oreo listed as the 9th most popular snack food in the nation and Reese’s in 12th place. Both have been around for a long time: Oreos were first produced 113 years ago and Reese’s were first produced 97 years ago.

“This collaboration redefines what it means to be a snacking leader by tapping into exactly what our fans are asking for,” said Michelle Deignan, Vice President, the Oreo brand. “At Oreo we’re always striving to break into the cultural conversation with unexpected and delicious partnerships for fans. As a 110+ year-old brand, we’re constantly looking for ways to disrupt the snacking market. What better way to show our fans we listen to their evolving snacking needs than to partner with the Reese’s brand to deliver the collab of their dreams.”

Dan Mohnshine, vice president of U.S. Confection Marketing for The Hershey Company, said: “When we heard the incredible demand for a Reese’s and Oreo mashup, we knew we had to make magic happen. This isn't just another product launch – it's two legendary brands coming together to create something absolutely unprecedented that’ll blow minds and taste buds everywhere.”

At this point you are probably wondering just how you can experience this “unprecedented” mashup. Here’s the scoop: first the new Oreo-Reese’s products will be available for presale at The Hershey store starting Aug. 18.

“Fans can sign up HERE for first access as soon as it goes live,” said Hershey. This week, fans can sign up for early access at OREO.com/UnwrapTheCollab.

Then, the Reese’s Oreo Cup will roll out to retailers nationwide starting in September. It’s not a limited time treat either – Hershey said this is a new permanent addition to the Reese’s portfolio. However, the first batch will be on sale until supplies last before the products return in January.
