FORT WORTH, TX — The Fort Worth Zoo, on their Facebook page, is shining a spotlight on the exceptional work of its veterinary team, sharing a recent, high-stakes success story involving one of its most charismatic residents, a male striped hyena named Felix.

A few weeks ago, the situation turned serious when a zoo guest reported that a small children’s toy was accidentally dropped inside the striped hyena habitat. It was quickly presumed that Felix, the male hyena, had ingested the object.

The Critical Concern: A Battery Inside

Medical imaging confirmed that the toy, which included a battery, remained lodged in Felix digestive system. The presence of a battery posed an immediate and life-threatening danger due to the potential for caustic burns and heavy metal poisoning.
