FORT WORTH, TX — The Fort Worth Zoo, on their Facebook page, is shining a spotlight on the exceptional work of its veterinary team, sharing a recent, high-stakes success story involving one of its most charismatic residents, a male striped hyena named Felix.
A few weeks ago, the situation turned serious when a zoo guest reported that a small children’s toy was accidentally dropped inside the striped hyena habitat. It was quickly presumed that Felix, the male hyena, had ingested the object.
The Critical Concern: A Battery Inside
Medical imaging confirmed that the toy, which included a battery, remained lodged in Felix digestive system. The presence of a battery posed an immediate and life-threatening danger due to the potential for caustic burns and heavy metal poisoning.
Successful Surgery and Full Recovery
Thanks to the veterinary team's quick action, specialized surgical skill, and dedication to his care, the remaining pieces of the toy were successfully removed.
Today and every day, the Fort Worth Zoo celebrates its incredible veterinary team, whose commitment ensures every animal receives the highest standard of care, making success stories like Felix's possible.
