France’s First Lady, Brigitte Macron, is bringing a defamation lawsuit to a U.S. courtroom after conservative commentator Candace Owens promoted claims that Macron was born male.
The French president and his wife are preparing to present photographic and scientific evidence to prove the allegations false. Their lawyer, Tom Clare, told the BBC that Mrs. Macron has found the rumors “incredibly upsetting” and said they have become a distraction for President Emmanuel Macron.
Owens’ legal team has filed a motion to dismiss the case, arguing the claims fall under free speech protections. But the Macrons’ attorneys say the allegations were deliberately harmful and deserve to be challenged publicly.
The case is expected to draw international attention as it moves through the U.S. legal system.
