Here's Trump's VP short list: 'The Magnificent 7'

Donald Trump is narrowing down his search for a running mate and is apparently focused on seven potential vice president candidates, all of whom are men.

According to reports, Trump has recently received vetting material from some of the candidates.

The short list reportedly currently includes: North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Sen. J.D. Vance (OH), Sen. Marco Rubio (FL), Sen. Tim Scott (SC), former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, Rep. Byron Donalds (FL) and Sen. Tom Cotton (AR). It's not known exactly which candidates have been asked to fill out questionnaires.

One source told NBC News that the search is concentrating on Burgum, Rubio, Scott and Vance. Another insider says it is down to a three-way battle between Burgum, Rubio and Vance.

Oddsmakers have listed Scott as the favorite, followed by Burgum, Vance and then Rubio.

It's not clear when Trump is expected to announce his vice presidential candidate, and his team is keeping tight-lipped about the matter.

"Anyone claiming to know who or when President Trump will choose his VP is lying, unless the person is named Donald J. Trump," Trump campaign senior adviser Brian Hughes told NBC.

Reports note that the list is not set in stone and is subject to change.

When Trump ran in 2016, he announced then-Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate just days before the Republican National Convention. That being said, analysts expect his decision to come closer to the convention, which opens July 15 in Milwaukee.
