More kids died from the flu in the last flu season than any other year.
The CDC reports the flu bug killed around 200 children during 2023-24. The old record had been 199 from 2019 through 2022.
The other factor cited was that 80% of the children who died did not get vaccinated against the flu. Around half of the deaths came in children who had some other health condition.
The CDC recommends that everyone older than six months should get the flu vaccine by the end of this month. Only 54% of children get the vaccination.
