A husband and wife in Virginia are facing criminal charges after an employee at a pizza shop was stabbed and disemboweled over a "botched" order, police said.
According to court documents obtained by WAVY, Catherine Harper became irate when she received the wrong order at MOD Pizza in Norfolk, Virginia on Sunday afternoon.
After getting into an argument with employees, Harper called her husband, Corey, and asked him to "handle the situation," per the report.
Corey Harper arrived at the restaurant not long after and allegedly stabbed the 24-year-old employee multiple times, cutting across his torso and exposing the employee's intestines, according to the report. The couple then left the scene.
Police were called and the employee was rushed to the hospital with what were described as non-life threatening injuries. The victim remains hospitalized but is expected to recover, WAVY reported.
Catherine, 45, and Corey, 47, Harper were later taken into custody and charged with malicious wounding. Corey Harper is also facing an additional charge of brandishing a firearm, according to reports.
In a statement to WAVY, Mod Pizza said it was "dismayed" to learn about what happened.
"While our team member recuperates in the hospital, we are conducting our due diligence and will make a well-thought-out decision about this situation. MOD Pizza has zero tolerance for behavior that escalates conflicts, whether initiated by a guest or a team member," the statement said. "Moments like these force organizations to re-examine employee training and look for ways to reinforce values and expectations. We are fully cooperating with the Norfolk Police Department in their investigation. Our top priority is creating a fun and inspiring place to work and a great place to eat.
Bond was set at $5,000 for Catherine Harper while Corey Harper is being held without bond, WAVY reported.
