A woman in Pennsylvania is recovering from severe burns after police say she lit a crack pipe while hooked up to oxygen in her hospital bed, sparking an explosion and fire.

The incident happened earlier this week as hospital staff rushed in to put out the flames and move nearby patients to safety.

Investigators say the woman was being treated at the time and is now facing felony charges for causing or risking a catastrophe. She was later transferred to a specialized burn unit for treatment of her injuries.

Authorities say the investigation remains open as they work to determine the full extent of the damage caused by the fire.
