NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and her mother Doria Ragland were involved in a "near catastrophic" chase by paparazzi in Manhattan Tuesday night, a rep for the couple said Wednesday.
“Last night, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms. Ragland were involved in a near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi," the spokesperson said.
The trio were chased by the photographers around 10 p.m. after leaving the Ziegfeld Theater on West 54th Street, where Markle was honored at Gloria Steinem's Women of Vision Awards.
"This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers," their rep added.
He concluded, in an eerie unspoken nod to Prince Harry's mother Princess Diana, who died in a 1997 paparazzi chase, "While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety."
The NYPD have yet to comment on the alleged incident.
