Donations are pouring in to help a puppy who authorities say was tossed from the window of a speeding pickup during a police chase this week.

Ramsey County Sheriff's officials say the pit bull pup spent a subzero night shivering in a ditch off I-694 until deputies rescued him the next morning.

The sheriff’s office shared that while the puppy had a broken leg and other injuries, he is expected to survive.

Kevin Davy with the Sheriff's Office Foundation says they’ve received more than $20,000 in the past day from more than 300 people wanting to help take care of the dog.

“I’ve been getting lots and lots of emails from people saying they are praying for the dog and that they’re thankful for the deputies that helped,” Davy said.

Davy says the money will be used to pay for the pup’s vet bills.

The dog, who deputies have named Taho, is being fostered by an employee in the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department until a permanent home can be found.

“We’re really proud of our deputies that came in to help, and they knew to do the right thing and take him to the vet right away,” Davy said. “Fortunately they were able to help him, and it sounds like he’s a really good and tough dog. Hopefully he ends up in a better place than he was before.”

Investigators say the woman who threw him from the truck has a history of animal cruelty and was arrested.
