A refrigerator suddenly and violently exploded inside a California kitchen, shattering four windows and causing significant damage to the home.
The blast happened on Thursday in Sanger, just outside of Fresno. The fridge hit the ceiling and sent food flying in all directions.
The explosion knocked a door off its hinges and left gaping holes in the kitchen walls, according to Sanger Fire Captain Andy Jones.
"One of the residents here was asleep on the couch. She said all she heard was a loud boom, glass breaking and she ran outside," Jones told KFSN.
Despite the damage, no injuries were reported.
Investigators have no idea what prompted the explosion, which left debris strewn across the yard.
"We discovered that the fridge was actually blown out from all sides, which is a sign of an actual explosion from the inside of the fridge -- which is not a normal thing," Jones told KFSN.
The incident remains under investigation.
