On Thursday, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and Consumer Reports released their updated list of recommended new and used cars for teen drivers.
In the currently tight used car market, parents may be tempted to buy a vehicle that is small and cheap, but fails to provide as much protection in a crash. According to the IIHS, teenage drivers are involved in traffic accidents at rates four times those of older drivers, making vehicle choice crucial.
The new IIHS/Consumer Reports list includes 61 recommended used models starting at $6,400. A separate category includes 29 new vehicles starting at $19,900.
