Southwest Airlines COO Mike Van de Ven apologized to staff for over tightly packed schedules and promised to ease up on scheduling going into the holiday season, per CNBC.
The apology comes in response to union complaints on overscheduling and overworking staff. Last Thursday, the airline's pilot's union was considering picketing at various airports, over Thanksgiving and Christmas to protest tightly packed schedules.
Over the summer the airline added more flights to its schedule in order to capitalize on the increasing demand in travel. Earlier this week, Southwest Airlines said that it has been struggling to hire new workers, and even offered a $300 bonus for referrals.
