This Halloween, you may see some houses with teal-colored pumpkins. And they aren’t just festive decorations.

For millions of kids with food allergies, like 6-year old Lucas, trick or treating is not a treat.

Your friends can have all these great treats and you have nut allergy, so you can't eat all that stuff," says Lucas.

Nancy Gregory is with the group Food Allergy Research and Education.

"With one in three kids having food allergies in the US, chances are one of these kids lives right down your block," Gregory explains.

The Teal Pumpkin Project aims to help. It signals to families that home gives out non-food treats.

The initiative has grown so much the teal gourds are sold at stores like Target and Walmart all across the country.

FARE (Food Allergery Research and Education) actually has an interactive map, showing where some locations are in your community, and allows you to add your own home.

They also have a list of some inexpensive non-food items you can give out instead.
