Texans celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with great enthusiasm, fanfare, and alcohol are helping to make it one of the deadliest holidays for motorists across the country.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality and Injury Reporting System, Texas is among the top 10 most dangerous states to drive on St. Patrick’s Day.

Kentucky is in the top spot, followed by Oklahoma, Louisiana in fourth, and Texas in sixth for the most dangerous states to drive on St. Patrick’s Day.

The study is based on fatalities per million registered drivers. According to NBC 5’s continuing series “Driven To Death,” Dallas’ overall traffic death rate is the worst among the 10 largest U.S. cities.
