PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Chicago White Sox and Washington Nationals will both extend their protective netting this summer, and the Pirates may not be far behind.
The debate surrounding MLB stadium protective netting flared again after a two-year-old girl suffered a skull fracture when she was hit with a foul ball at a Houston Astros game in May and a young girl was hit by a ball over the weekend at Dodgers Stadium.
Pirates president Frank Coonelly tells KDKA Radio, plans are already in the works to extend the protective netting at PNC Park.
“We are currently engaging the people that we have used in the past for our netting to give us some plans for further extension of the netting whether it’s to the end of the foul pole or close to the end of the foul pole,” said Coonelly.
Connelly adds there are some “quarks” with PNC Park’s design.
“Toward the end of the foul pole the seats jet back toward the fences.”
