Dallas salon owner Shelley Luther is advancing to a run-off in the six-way special election to replace State Senator Pat Fallon, the Prosper Republican who resigned his 30th District seat to run for Congress.
Luther and fellow Republican Drew Springer each won about 32% of the vote in yesterday's balloting -- neither reaching the 50% needed to avoid the runoff.
The only Democrat in the race, Jacob Minter, trailed with 21% and has been eliminated.
Luther is entering politics after protesting against Governor Abbott when she opened her hair salon in opposition to Abbott's state-wide order to close salons because of Coronavirus fears.
Luther was once quoted as saying of Abbot: "our tyrant governor has embarrassed us completely."
