Forget Beto, Texas Democratic leaders want a Congressman from Dallas to challenge Senator Ted Cruz in 2024.
He was able to flip a congressional seat in Dallas in 2018, beating longtime Republican Pete Sessions and turning Texas' 32nd congressional district from red to blue.
Now, Congressman Colin Alred is being courted to run for Senate. The Dallas Morning News reports Democratic leaders think Alred has a good chance to beat Senator Ted Cruz because he has support from a variety of voters, young, old, gay, straight and even the business community.
Alred has been endorsed for Congress by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He's also backed by the Texas AFL-CIO.
No Democrat has won statewide office in Texas since 1994. Alred, a former NFL player, isn't commenting.
