Former Austin public radio journalist announces her run for Governor
By Curt Lewis Dec 09, 2021
A former Austin public radio journalist is running for Governor.
Making her announcement yesterday, Joy Diaz said she will challenge Beto O'Rourke in the Democratic primary.
In early November, Diaz left her reporting job at the Austin public radio station KUT. She says the inspiration for her decision came early this year when she and her elementary-school aged son came down with Covid-19.
In the intro to her video announcing her plans, Diaz says "I believe our outgoing (sic) governor has forgotten that he is a public servant. And that he was hired to serve us. I was reared to serve. I am a Christian. I am a Democrat. I am a mother of 2 amazing young Texans. And I am ready to serve!"
