There is new information out about the death of former Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins.

According to the Dallas County Medical Examiner, Watkins died at age 56 from natural causes, ending rumors that had been circulating in the courthouse that something may have played a role.

Watkins' long-time friend, attorney Russell Wilson, says Watkins had been suffering from medical problems in recent months and had lost a noticeable amount of weight.

Watkins was the first Black DA elected in Texas and gained national attention for his role in gaining release and exoneration for inmates who were wrongly convicted in sexual assault cases.
