Governer Abbott threatens lawmakers after Sunday night's walk out by house Democrats

Austin (1080 KRLD) - Governor Abbott's still angry about the House Democrats walk out Sunday night that killed his must-pass election integrity legislation.

On Monday Abbott tweeted that he'll veto the portion of the budget that funds the entire State Legislature. For good measure, Abbott added, "No pay for those who abandon their responsibilities."

On Sunday night the Texas House was set to vote on whether to accept the conference committee agreement over Senate Bill 7 when the Democrats walked out, breaking the quorum needed to vote on legislation. With just an hour left in the Session deadline to vote on bills, House Speaker Dade Phelan announced that based on the tally sheet provided by the House clerk that a quorum was no longer present and then he adjourned the House till 10 am on Monday.

Governor Abbott was quick to respond Sunday night to the House Democrats' move. He released the following statement:

"I declared Election Integrity and Bail Reform to be must-pass emergency items for this legislative session. It is deeply disappointing and concerning for Texans that neither will reach my desk. Ensuring the integrity of our elections and reforming a broken bail system remain emergencies in Texas. They will be added to the special session agenda. Legislators will be expected to have worked out the details when they arrive at the Capitol for the special session."
