President Joe Biden celebrated the first major victory of his administration after his coronavirus relief bill was approved by Congress. Getting his way on immigration reform appears to be a much tougher fight.
The president's immigration plan includes a path to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S., but a top Senate Democrat says it has little chance of passing in the near future.
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) told Bloomberg, "I think Speaker (Nancy) Pelosi has discovered she doesn't have the support for a comprehensive bill in the House," Durbin said. "And I think that indicates where it is in the Senate as well."
Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress are blaming the Biden administration for the recent surge in illegal crossings at the southern border. That influx has prompted federal authorities to formulate a plan to send 3,000 migrant teenagers to a temporary holding facility at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas.
White House officials said this week they do not consider the current border situation to be a crisis.
