McKinney City Council waiting to fill recalled member's position

The McKinney City Council has decided to wait until December to fill a vacant seat of a member who was ousted by voters.

By an overwhelming vote, McKinney residents voted to get rid of La'Shadion Shemwell, leaving it up to the council to appoint someone to fill his term.

That decision was pushed back so the council can take its time and come up with a replacement.

Mayor George Fuller says they will probably have to hold two council meetings that day.

Council members all agree Shemwell's replacement should come from his district, which is District 1.

Mayor Fuller takes it a step further saying the replacement probably should be someone not interested in running for election when the term expires so that nobody has an advantage.
