Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is pushing for a new rule that would impact district attorneys in counties with more than 250,000 people.
The proposal would require new quarterly and annual reports on violent crime and force DAs to establish an official definition for the phrase "violent crime."
It would also institute consequences for district attorneys who fail to meet the reporting requirements, according to the attorney general's website.
Travis County District Attorney Jose A. Garza has been under the microscope for his office's handling of violent crime. A citizen filed a petition in December to remove Garza on the grounds of incompetency and misconduct.
