Texas State Representative Jake Ellzey has defeated fellow Republican Susan Wright in yesterday's special election to replace Wright's late husband, Ron Wright, in Congress.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who remained neutral in a race between two similar pro-second amendment, pro-border wall and pro-life Republicans has congratulated Ellzey with a statement saying, "Jake will be a strong and effective leader for the people of North Texas and he will fight tirelessly for their values in Washington."
Last night, Ellzey declared victory with about 52% of the vote.
Susan Wright entered the race for the Texas Sixth Congressional District seat after her husband died in February, just weeks after announcing he had tested positive for the Coronavirus, becoming the first sitting member of Congress to die from Covid-19.
Ellzey will serve out the remainder of Ron Wright's term which ends in January of 2023.
