Two of the country's largest teachers unions are calling for a controversial congresswoman to be booted off the prestigious Education Committee.
The National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers, which represents teachers in Texas, are demanding House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy remove Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from the Education committee.
In a letter to McCarthy, the unions say Conspiracy theories do not belong in our schools. "Hate, racism, anti-Semitism and bullying do not belong in our schools."
Teachers say Greene's behavior in pushing hateful conspiracy theories disqualifies her from serving on the committee. They point to a recent video showing Greene harassing a survivor of the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, a shooting she calls "fake."
They insist removing her is necessary to ensure a safe learning environment for all students.
