Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller says president Biden's Covid 19 relief plan discriminates against white farmers and ranchers and seeks class action status.
Miller, who is a conservative Republican, has a ranch in Erath County. The American Rescue plan of 2021 offers relief to farmers and ranchers of color but not include white ethnic groups like the Irish, Italian and German and Eastern Europeans.
Under the 1.9 trillion dollar White House Plan, $10.4 billion would be used for agriculture and food programs with about 50% going to going to relief for ranchers and farmers of color.
SMU political scientist Cal Jillson says "they have been discriminated against literally for the previous century, and the idea they might get a little benefit is driving Sid up the wall."
