The Texas Department of Agriculture has developed a way to help farmers and ranchers when they find themselves in need.
The state of Texas Agriculture Relief Fund, better known as the STAR Fund, is designed to help ag producers when disaster strikes.
Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller says "whether it's a wildfire, tropical storm, hurricane or ice storm, the STAR Fund is here to help." Miller goes on to say "this isn't some state handout program. The STAR Fund is made up entirely of money from private citizens and organizations that want to help, so really it's just Texans helping Texans."
If you find yourself needing to apply for relief after a disaster, visit texasagriculture.gov.
If you'd like to donate to the STAR Fund you can also do that at the TDA website.
Miller adds "every penny of the STAR Fund is sent out to those farmers and ranchers who need a little help getting back on their feet."
