Texas State House Speaker Dennis Bonnen took to social media after the death of US Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick to call for unity in denouncing the Capitol riots.

“Surely anyone who Backs the Blue cannot in good conscience continue to defend yesterday’s atrocities at our nation’s Capitol. If you haven’t already condemned the disgusting acts of vandalism and violence, may the loss of this innocent life — this heroic servant — open your eyes and hearts to the tragedies perpetuated by an uncivilized society. The loved ones of Officer Sicknick, and all those who lost their lives, are in my prayers. May God bring comfort and a renewed hope to the heavy hearts of this great nation.”
